This series represents the complex layers making up a human life. Primarily consisting of canvas-scrapes from my previous years of works, I felt this would be a most accurate way of depicting human attitudes and emotions, and the way human beings view one another. Although easily labeled, understood and dissected from a distance, closer examination reveals subtle complexities of layers, colors and unique textures.
I use layers of plaster, waxes and stains over a canvas, that are fractured and then attached to a solid wood box. To complete the individual piece I paint simple forms and shapes, creating a sense of balance.
Each painting provides an overall image that can be explored for hours.
